Weekly Message: Friday, Sept 4

 September 4, 2026 Jocelyn

Welcome to the first weekly blog of 2026-2027. Here, you can stay up to date with the latest and greatest learning in the classroom, as well as important upcoming events.

We had a wonderful first week in grades 1 and 2. It has been so much fun to get to know the students and watch new connections grow amongst them. Students shared that seeing their old friends and meeting new ones were highlights of the week. Much of our week was spent becoming familiar with the classroom, the routines, and learning the ways we will be learning together.

We introduced students to number talks as a routine that will occur often during the year. When doing a number talk, students talked about their own ideas and wonderings. This week, we learned a new math game- Race to 10, Race to 20, and even Race to 100 for some students. They worked together to share, take turns, and be a kind classmate.

We read a number of stories about the first days of school and the many feelings that came with it. with it. Students did their first writing piece of the year, sharing their hopes and dreams for the coming year. We also got to know each other through some “All About Me” posters. First, we talked about how to create work that was tidy, accurate, and our best work. Everyone worked hard to create beautiful posters.
