Weekly Message: December 5
Hello kindergarten families!
Thank you to all of those who visited us for conferences last week and for those of you that have booked meetings if you were unable to make it. We loved seeing and meeting your families again.
Our learning from this week:
Math:
We have continued patterning and worked on making patterns with our 'daisy-chains' in the classroom. We also played some math games with dice to continue our work of spotting numbers at a glance.
Literacy:
We have learned letters Aa, Mm, and Ss. We are continuing to practice forming the sounds these letters make, and printing them during writing. We have introduced the "Heart" words: The, and I. Keep practicing writing these letters and words at home as well as observing them in your daily surroundings. It is helpful to point out letters that you can see around the home and on signs as you go by them.
Earlier this week we read the book Fry Bread and talked about our senses and how we can identify each one as we read and listen to stories.
We are still collecting photos from families to share about their special celebrations and traditions. Please send photos and the description in your child's message folder (or via email.) If you are unable to find a photo please fill in the information form to explain the kinds of celebrations your family participates in.
In gym we developed and improved our ball skills and learned a new game. We had to try and knock down the other team's cones and balls. Ask your child about it, did they enjoy it?
Reminders:
- Keep on sending those clear message folders! :)
- Send a photo in of your child celebrating (and explain it)
- Winter concert Dec. 11
Winter Concert
Students will perform this year's Winter Concert, Once Upon a Snowman, on Thursday, December 11th. Everyone (Kindergarten - Grade 6) will participate in two performances of the show, one dress rehearsal in the morning (time TBD) and a performance in the evening at 6:00pm. Details about arrival time for the evening will be sent before the concert. Students do not need any special costumes or clothing for these performances; they should wear whatever makes them feel self-assured and confident.
To support capacity challenges, the evening performance is for students and immediate family members only. We are asking each family to limit their attendance to 2-3 people as a maximum so that all students can have supporters in attendance. Should other family members or friends wish to see the show, please consider attending the dress rehearsal during the day. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for making time in busy schedules to come together for our talented students. The focus of these performances, as always, is to support musical understanding in a positive context that is fun and meaningful for kids.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please connect with Katie McMillan at kamcmillan@cbe.ab.ca.
