Weekly Message: January 15

Hello Kindergarten families! Our students enjoyed participating during in-line skating this week. Many of us were sad that it ended. Thank you to our parent volunteers who helped by getting skates and gear on all of the kindergarten students. We wrote and drew in our journals about our skating experience. We learned how to add wheels to the bottom of our feet in our drawings.

Our learning from this week:

Math:

We are continuing to recognize our numbers 1-6. We played many dice-rolling games this week. This is a great way to practice "subitizing" (seeing numbers at a glance.) We counted the number of wheels on our roller skates and added both feet together to find out how many wheels we had in total. Some students had 3 wheels per foot and others had 4!

Literacy:

We have learned letters Aa, Mm, Ss, Tt, Pp and Ff. A handout for the letter Ff and sight words were sent home this week. Be sure to put them in your blue At-Home Folders. Reviewing all letters of the alphabet and recognizing them in print or on signs will help students be able to recall letters as they learn to read and write. We also had an art center that students could finish drawing a fox for the letter Ff.

Social/Science:

We finished our "Tree in Winter" artwork. The students used a tape resist, wet on wet technique and added a sprinkle of a secret ingredient to create a frost-like effect. Ask your child about it.

Alien In-line Skating:

We spent much of our week with the Alien-In-Line skating program. The children continued to practice putting on equipment, standing up, falling safety and moving in various ways around the gym. They even played some games and had a disco party on the last day. We did such a good job of falling down and getting back up again. Resilience!

Reminders:

  • No Kindergarten tomorrow, Friday, January 16 and Monday, January 19.
Enjoy the long(er) weekend with your child!
All the best,

Ms. Kinnear
