Weekly Message: Friday, Sept 18

Hello families,

It was another busy and exciting week in Grade 1/2! We continued building our classroom community and learning together. During our Wednesday walk, we walked around the perimeter of the school and looked for landmarks. Students drew both natural and constructed landmarks in their visual journals.

A highlight of the week was our community garden harvest on Friday! Students explored the garden and picked vegetables that we will use to make Stone Soup. It was a great opportunity for students to connect their learning to our community and work together.

Learning Intentions:

  • I can distinguish between natural features and constructed landmarks

  • I can discuss ways to respect plants and animals in various environments

  • I can share my thoughts during number talks.

  • I can recognize and represent numbers in different ways.

  • I can share my ideas using words and pictures.

Students also had a chance to visit the school library and choose a book to take home and read. Our community garden harvest was a wonderful way to finish the week. Students explored the garden, picked vegetables, and worked together to gather ingredients for our upcoming Stone Soup.

Ways to Continue the Learning At Home:

  • Read together each evening- have your student share about their favourite read-aloud of the week

  • Have your student teach you our latest math game- “Chocolate chip”

  • Read together each evening and have your student share something they noticed or enjoyed about their new book

  • Practice skip counting by 2’s

  • Look around your home or neighbourhood for different kinds of landmarks
