Orange Shirt Day & Our Learning
This week, we learned about Orange Shirt Day and the importance of remembering and honouring the experiences of residential school survivors. We listened to Phyllis Webstad’s story and created our own orange hearts. Students also completed a sit-spot journal about what makes them feel safe at school and shared their ideas about caring for and supporting others.
We continued developing our reading and writing skills by practicing short i CVC words through Roll and Read, word sheets, and a decodable text activity. Students also completed a writing and picture prompt about a time they showed bravery, connecting back to our learning about Terry Fox. Please ask your student to share these with you at home.
In math, we continued working with quantities by representing a number using place value. We rolled two dice and chose which one would go in each place to make the biggest number. We also spent time finishing our special card art, which will soon be available for families to purchase. Students have put lots of time and care into their artwork!
