Weekly Message: October 9

This week we started our football unit in P.E. We learned about a “snapdown” position, and played some movement games that align with skills associated with football. We played tag, catching, and running games. We started “inner/outer” self portraits in art. We used a mirror to identify unique characteristics about our faces and discussed things that made us unique both inwardly and outwardly.

In math, we started working on recognizing, extending and creating patterns. We also spent some time looking at place value and where each digit of a number belongs (what place it is in.) We kicked off our October journals with a focus on the autumn season. During our inquiry block, we learned about the lifecycle of a pumpkin and we discussed what we can do with pumpkins (eat, carve, etc.) We related the time when we harvest a pumpkin to seasonal changes in autumn. We also observed seasonal changes in our local environment.
