Weekly Message: April 17
Hello Kindergarten Families!
We continued our floor hockey unit in gym this week and learned to pass with friends. We have been working on keeping our blade on the floor and "pushing" the puck to the other player. For safety, we keep our sticks/blades below the waist and look around before we need to move it or put it away. The kids worked on how to grip the hockey stick and how to move around using it and a puck.
We have our celebration of learning on Thursday, April 30 at 9:30 AM. Parents are invited to come and watch if they would like. We are acting out an ocean environment. This week we made headbands as "props" to show who we are acting out. Basically, each student will say either "Hello, I am a _____ (ex. Jellyfish)" if alone, or "Hello, We are ______ (ex. Seaweed)" if with others. Each child will say one thing that they think is important about their character. We are keeping this fun and kid generated. The kids will also be singing some choral songs they have worked on with Mrs.McMillan in music.
We had a circle talk with Sandra Manyfeathers on Monday. It is always lovely to see students interact with Elders. We are learning to show respect for others and to listen while someone else is talking and sharing stories and wisdom.
We also reviewed VC and CVC (vowel-consonant and consonant-vowel-consonant) words this week and added a new heart word to our growing collection: "see." Next week students will be writing and making these kinds of words to share their learning with you at home.
Bonus:
Look at these friends working together!
With much love,
Ms. Kinnear
