Hello Kindergarten Families! We continued our floor hockey unit in gym this week and learned to pass with friends. We have been working on keeping our blade on the floor and "pushing" the puck to the other player. For safety, we keep our sticks/blades below the waist and look around before we need to move it or put it away. The kids worked on how to grip the hockey stick and how to move around using it and a puck. We have our celebration of learning on Thursday, April 30 at 9:30 AM. Parents are invited to come and watch if they would like. We are acting out an ocean environment. This week we made headbands as "props" to show who we are acting out. Basically, each student will say either "Hello, I am a _____ (ex. Jellyfish)" if alone, or "Hello, We are ______ (ex. Seaweed)" if with others. Each child will say one thing that they think is important about their character. We are keeping this fun and kid generated. The kids will also be singing so...

Happy Friday Kindergarten families! We had such a fun week in kindergarten this week. The highlight was definitely having  Sound Creations teach us how to move and dance to music and the beat. Keston, our teacher, was amazing. Ask your student to show you some of their moves from the dance that we learned for, "Peanut Butter Jelly Time."    We also experimented with drawing figures in movement or in a pose. The students posed for the class and we drew what they did with their bodies. The circles represent pivot points like our elbows, shoulders, knees, and feet. This was a great drawing study for the students. The "Super Centre Circle" is a self-portrait of a pose that they enjoy.   We continued our Ocean Environment learning and decided what we wanted to be for our Celebration of Learning mini "play."  In math, we spent time talking about neighbours of numbers. For example, the number 4 has two neighbours, 3 and 5. We also looked at a number line and bega...

Hello Kindergarten Families,      It was great to have everyone back and to hear about how kids spent their spring breaks.  The children had an opportunity to share orally as a class and then express their ideas through pictures and words in their journals. It is amazing to see their growth adding details to their pictures and sounding out full sentences.    This week we worked on the letter Bb.  We looked at lowercase letters that are formed using a "magic c", like letters: a, d, o, c and g, and noticed that Bb does not start with a "magic c." Please practice reading A Bug on the Bus.  This is the moment where students are figuring out the difference between lowercase d and b.  Playing the "read and roll" game with your child will help them practice seeing and sounding out the differences. The game was sent home today. We have taught/learned the letters  Aa, Mm, Ss, Tt, Pp, Ff,  Ii ,  Nn , Oo, Dd, Cc,  Uu, Gg, and Bb....
