Ms. Kinnear's Kindergarten Class

       Greetings Kindergarten Families,  W hat a year we have had! This week has been a celebration of everything we have been learning. We continued writing in our journals and adding finishing touches to our work. We spent time reading and listening to stories. We sang songs and watched the grade 6 celebration. We also helped clean up our classroom by wiping chairs and organizing items. We visited the grade 1 classrooms and got to see what it will be like next year. We saw each room and even got to witness a morning circle time with one of the classes.  We finished number 10 this week! WOOHOO! We have some learning to build on, and are beginning to understand that quantities can be made in a variety of ways.  The journals have recorded and stored much of our work this year and are a nice keepsake.   Hello Kindergarten Families! This week in Kindergarten we went to the Community Garden to help and learn more about the lifecycle of a plant. We did a scavenger hunt and made lots of observations about living things. We even had time to play at the playground nearby.  On Thursday, we had some special guests come to our classroom! The students were thrilled! They became scientists who observed ducklings both in and out of water. Everyone got to hold and pet the ducklings.      In math, we focused on the number 8 and started working on 9 in our journals. We represented these quantities in multiple ways. The students are getting good at counting and identifying numbers.          In gym, we continued with our kickball unit and the students have played a few rounds.   Hello Kindergarten Families! This week the students were excited for their field trip to the Zoo. We talked about when we were going using words & phrases like "this week," "Thursday," "the day after tomorrow", and "tomorrow." We discussed what animals we might see and which ones we would like to visit. We also reviewed expectations including, how to remain in a group.  We continued our work with the letter Rr and introduced students to the concept of "Rr" being the second letter in some words and how to sound it out and blend it to say words like "grab," "frog," "crop" and "trip." Take a look at our home reading sheets and practice reading with your child. Rr is a tricky sound for many students.
