 Hello Kindergarten Families!

This week in school we observed our butterflies emerge from their chrysalises! We noticed that they still had 6 legs, 2 antennas, and a proboscis. We also noticed that a butterfly's body includes a head, thorax, and abdomen. Since the butterflies emerged early in the week, we were also able to observe them as we released them near the school garden. Some butterflies flew out of their enclosure right away and others took some "convincing." We discussed how butterflies survive in their natural environments and how they now have risks because they are outside of a safe enclosure. Students loved seeing the orange, black and white colour of our painted lady butterflies.

In math, we broke apart the number five and played a spill and count game to represent different ways of making 5. We are practicing forming our number correctly (facing the right way) and making addition math sentences that equal 5. You will be able to see this work in your child's journal at the end of the school year.

In literacy, we continued working through our letters and we spent time forming and writing the letter Rr. Rr has two parts to it, so next week we will continue with the other sounds and jobs that the letter Rr has. We continued learning and practicing reading heart words such as, he, we, be.
We created art for the volunteer tea. Most students made paper flower art with a black background.
